Founded in 1922 by Eng. Antonino Cangemi Senior, the firm acquired its modern identity as an engineering and architecture practice in 1956, with Eng. Antonino Cangemi Leto and Arch. Mariza Terrasi, adapting to the evolution of the profession.
In 1986 Eng. Antonio Cangemi and Arch. Agostino Cangem joined the firm; in 1999, following the reform of public works regulations, it became a professional partnership, and in 2023 it was transformed into the current engineering company. As of 2025, the firm is predominantly engaged in projects across Sicily and stands among the leading Palermo-based firms in the field of public works, with a consolidated reputation for excellence and reliability.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the firm collaborated with Gino Pollini and Vittorio Gregotti on the design of the Science Departments of the University of Palermo, also supervising the construction. With Gregotti Associati, from the 1980s until 2004, it carried out several projects for the redevelopment of the historic center of Menfi (Palazzo Comunale, Torre Federiciana, Chiesa Madre, Piazza Matrice and urban infrastructures), focusing on engineering aspects and construction management.
In the field of infrastructure, the firm contributed, together with other professionals, to the design of sections of the PA–CT, PA–Mazara del Vallo and CT–SR motorways, the Palermo ring road, and the supervision of most of the road network serving the A.S.I. of Siracusa. Currently (2025) it is engaged in the completion of the motorway interchange and urban infrastructures serving the commercial area of Brancaccio (Forum Palermo).
In the hydraulic sector, the firm designed the methane gas distribution network for the “Sicilia 22” basin, tourist ports and maritime works.
In healthcare construction, it managed the renovation of the Children’s Hospital of Palermo, the hospitals of Luino and Cittiglio (VR), the Pediatric Excellence Center of Palermo, and several pavilions of ISMETT (Palermo). Together with other professionals, it is currently designing and renovating 15 healthcare facilities (hospitals and community care centers).
Among its integrated projects: the Alcamo wind farm, the stabilization of the rock slope above Marineo (PA), and the renovation of the A.M.I.A. headquarters in Palermo.
The firm is also active in environmental recovery, having collaborated with the Marine Protected Areas of Ustica and Egadi, and has taken part in teaching activities with the Faculty of Architecture of Palermo and the Royal College of Art in London.
Between 2007 and 2017 it partnered with ARK gbr in Berlin, participating in international tenders in the healthcare sector. It also regularly takes part in design competitions, achieving several awards and national recognitions.

The firm is quality certified by RINA according to ISO 9001:2015 for Design Services, Construction Supervision, and Verification of Civil Engineering Works. It currently has a permanent staff of six people, in addition to a network of regular external collaborators.
